This was our first time making apple butter. We had great fun picking the apples ourselves at MacQueens, although I forgot the camera for that outing. Mary still says “okay, so we got the apples, but when are we going to the Queens?” The whole family got in on this, and I must say, the apple butter is pretty tasty!
Peel, Core, Chop, Peel, Core, Chop, half a bushel apples to Peel, Core, Chop!

Yikes! This is what a 2 year old does to his sister while everyone else is busy!

In the roaster they go.
Soon they look like this:

A watched pot never boils!

Filling the jars

We’re rolling now…

And Viola! Apple Butter, perfect for a fall treat!

What a wonderful family adventure. I especially like the picture of the baby with the apples. And it looks so yummy, too.
Thank you for your comments on my xanga!!! I got those placemats at, of all places (!), Wal-Mart. I thought they were so pretty. They had other colors as well, and are very affordable.
I was just today thinking about trying to make apple butter…I’ve never done it before – and I have *never* canned anything before…but maybe it’s time for me to try it out! Yours looks delicious! What do you usually eat it with? Do you have any suggestions for a first timer???
I love the pic of the baby and the apples….lol
